Gentleness

How amazing is it to be in the house of the Lord today, church? Amen!

God loves you! Jesus dead for you. And we are all a part of the family of God together, Amen. May the Lord bless you greatly. Peace to everyone!

If you have your Bibles with you please turn with me to Galatians 5:22-23. While you are turning there we are going to be learning today about the fruit of gentleness.

You see beloved, the eyes of the Lord God are everywhere. He never sleeps or slumbers. He knows more about you than you know about your self. We cannot hide from the All-knowing God. Jesus set the example for us long before we were created and brought into this world of what true gentleness looks like?

Quoting from what Christians want to know. com. “Is your meek spirit felt around those who live or work with you? Or do they feel that you are a hard and legalistic person to deal with? A spirit of gentleness gives grace freely and consistently. Believers and unbelievers should feel at ease around you because of your presence of gentleness.”

If you are there in Galatians 5:22-23 say amen.

Galatians 5:22–23 (LEB)

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control. Against such things there is no law.”

Opening Prayer!

Introduction: Become Gentle As a Lamb.

“The word of God is powerful and living. It helps and directs us Christians in all areas of life. Do you sometimes struggle with gentleness? Having young children at home can cause you to struggle in the area of gentleness everyday. Reading through the Bible about gentleness will help us realize God has given us His peace through a victory already won. This promise of God should lead us to act more gentle. I encourage you to read through these scriptures from today’s message slowly this week and allow God to work them into your heart. Pray that God will help you take one thing from this and to implement it in your life every day.” Gentleness is : Act (Deed),  Conduct, Manner (Behavior). You have to seek the Spirit of God, who is the source of gentleness.

meaning: acting in a manner that is gentle, mild, and even-tempered.

For example: Proverbs 15:1 says,

“A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”

Quote: the words that come out of our mouths should be soft and gentle. Gentleness leads to longevity and great health for the body. For anger, worry, and fear can destroy what was meant be gentle. Life is to short to be walking around mad all the time. Why not ask the Lord to fill you with His gentleness?

Listen Church, the struggles we often try to take on; thinking we can solve these problems in our strength is just not the case. God’s Word tells us in 1 Peter 5:6-7 “Humbly yourself, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because He cares for you.” We are commanded to turn all of struggles, burden’s, cares, troubles, and anything else that tears us down over to the Lord. We as children of God need to understand that we are Powerless against the uncontrollable and things we cannot change. Surrendering to the power of the Holy Spirit and receiving His gentleness leads us beside the still waters. We must drink from the fountain of gentleness that can only come from the Spirit of God.

For Jesus tells us in Matthew 11:29-30 “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Jesus has got it. There is nothing Impossible for God. Rest in the gentleness of the Lord brothers and sisters. A way to know you are clothed in the gentleness of the Lord is when we show mercy, grace, and gentleness to the weak and vulnerable.

Quote from eternity news.com “gentleness is not the opposite of strength or passion. The truly gentle person is the person who is strong, but who treats the weak and vulnerable with care and protection. The gentle person does not break the fragile.”

You see church, the fruit of gentleness takes:

time

work

change,

and yes the power of the Holy Spirit in us to create gentleness in us.

We cannot live as Jesus did, and as God commands us to in the Bible if we do not put action to the Fruit of the Spirit. Philippians 4:5 says,

“Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand;”

We are called to live humbly with all people. Sharing, caring ,and loving to all people. When we are obedient to God and His commands the Holy Spirit leads us in His gentleness through the storms of life. Some of those storms can come when we are called to defend what we believe; what we believe in is the death, burial, resurrection, and ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ? Those storms are standing firm in the face of hatred, violence, and hostility against the truth of our King Jesus.

Just like 1 Peter 3:15 tells us,“but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,” even in defending Christianity we are to show gentleness to hostility of an unbelieving world.

because Titus 3:2 reminds us“to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people.” In the moment of battle we must remember are fight is not “against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Pray on the Armor of God each day and allow the gentleness of the Spirit to work through you to destroy the defense of the enemy by using the greatest offensive weapon we have to fight the war. The Sword, which is the Word of God. The wisdom of God found in the Bible keeps us focused in battle.

Why?

James 3:17 declares,“But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.”

When we walk in step with the Spirit. The Spirit fights the battle in and through us. Hearts are melted and Lives are changed through the fruit gentleness.

You see church, the fruit of gentleness takes:

time

work

change,

and yes the power of the Holy Spirit in us to create gentleness in us.

What about those times when we sin or we see a brother or sister sin?

Here is another moment in life where we can put to work the fruit of gentleness by showing others, and ourselves grace through forgiveness. It takes the fruit of gentleness to be able to show grace when needed most.

The proof is found in Galatians 6:1 “Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted.”

Max Lucado, author and pastor quotes:

“I choose gentleness… Nothing is won by force. I choose to be gentle. If I raise my voice may it be only in praise. If I clench my fist, may it be only in prayer. If I make a demand, may it be only of myself. ”

Applications: Gentle As a Lamb.

We Must:

Choose to be gentle with all people. How? Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with His gentleness. There is no other way this is possible because apart from Christ Jesus we can do nothing.

Care for and meet people right where they are at in life. We can honestly care for other by listening to their concerns. We live in a time when everybody has got something to say but no one is really listening sincerely. Take the time when someone is need of sharing their burdens with you. To close your mouth and open your ears and hearts without speaking. Pray for them and their struggles. Caring for others through gentleness.

Counsel the hardened heart. Do not engage in a war of words with the lost soul? Speak with gentleness in your hearts and words. Let your Actions (Deeds), Conduct, Manner and (Behavior) reflect the gentleness of the Lord. Remember the eyes of the Lord God are everywhere. He sees all things, all people, and all situations. A person does not know that you care about them unless you show them you care. Put action to it live in the gentleness of the Spirit.
